Behind the Barbed Wire
History of Naval Weapons Station Concord

by John A. Keibel

Behind the Barbed Wire

Behind the Barbed Wire takes you behind a fence that for more than 60 years contained Naval Weapons Station Concord. While the history of the nations "largest West Coast ammunition transshipment port" stands on its own - national defense, Port Chicago Explosion and high science - there is more.

Behind the Barbed Wire includes accounts by and about the people: those who lived here prior to the Navys presence and those who were stationed and employed at the station.

Behind the Barbed Wire: History of Naval Weapons Station Concord was born of curiosity that arose as the author photographed wildlife on the 12,920- acre station in the late 1990s. The research and interviews that satisfied his curiosity - together with over 250 photographs and maps - are presented between these covers with hopes of satisfying your curiosity as well.
