History of Concord

Indians, Spanish explorers and settlers, farmers and modern commuters are all part of the rich and colorful history of the City of Concord, California. This book chronicles more than 200 years of that story through de-tailed accounts of the lives and times of the people who made that history and through a remarkable collection of photographs from yesteryear.

This book is the biography of a city, prophetically named Concord. Its founders and builders gave even more to the city than solid growth and prosperity, lovely homes, schools, community activities, and good laws. They gave a genuine spirit of good fellowship, strengthening and helping one another in times of stress and trouble. They gave a true sense of home and stability, while maintaining an openness to change.

These qualities, together with a strong sense of unity, are glimpsed through these pages to illustrate the individuality of the town of Concord.

This book, while giving a factual history of Concord, aims to inspire future generations to emulate their forefathers in working for Concord's enduring progress and promise.

In the same spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm displayed by Concord's early citizens, literally dozens of contemporary residents have shared their memories and mementoes, their old-time photos and snapshots, and their records and reminiscenses.
