The following explains the current fee structure for research and photographic reproductions at the history center.

Commercial and Genealogical Research Fees

We are a primary source archive. We encourage our visitors and members to conduct their own research. Our staff provides the help needed to locate materials you need, and advice on how best to use the material. Much of our material is catalogued in our computer database which is available to you as well.

MEMBERS in good standing may use the archives as often as they wish during regular operating hours. Those individuals who are not members or whose dues are in arrears can join or renew when they arrive at the archive to begin their research. Dues are $30 per year for an individual.

COMMERCIAL researchers, doing self-directed research are charged an hourly fee of $35.00 for use of the archive or you may prefer $500 for an annual CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP which gives you unlimited use of the archive during regular operating hours. Our staff will help you locate the records you need, but you are expected to do the actual research yourself. We will invoice your company if you wish for time and photocopies. Terms are Net 30 days. We encourage you to call us before you begin your project. We can be very helpful in determining if we have the records you need before you come in, and can often give an estimate of the time and charges we believe you will incur. For large or long-term projects we encourage you to consult with us for special rates, use fees, etc.

If you cannot visit the archives to do your own research or prefer to have the work done for you please see the RESEARCH FEE schedule below.

• Genealogical Searches -- Conducted by/for individuals with focus on family history only.

• Commercial Searches -- Conducted by/for individuals for purposes of businesses, educational institutions (not local), governments, authors, professional researchers, etc.

Research Fees for research conducted by our staff on your behalf.

• Genealogical Searches -- $15.00/hour (one-hour minimum)
• Commercial Searches -- $50.00/hour
• Photocopies -- $0.25 per copy

• Priority Mail -- $4.00 for each batch of 50 pages or less
• Photographs -- May be copied for reference use only. For actual reproductions, please see price list included in the PHOTO DATABASE.

• No Research fees for members of the Contra Costa County Historical Society or students registered in local schools or colleges doing their own research in the archives. Self-service photocopies in the archives are 25 cents each.

• some background information on the person(s) of interest
• specific area(s) of interest on which we should focus our research
• a spending limit (e.g., $20) to bound our efforts

Reproduction Fees

TYPES OF PHOTO REPRODUCTIONS

1. All prints are normally Black & White -- Glossy, Matte if requested. CCCHS, as a matter of policy, does not provide digital scanned transfers of its photo collections.
2. If we have no negative or a glass negative for the selected photograph there will be an extra $12.50 for a negative/scan which remains as The History Center/CCCHS property.
3. Photograph prints and negative proportions have varied over time. Some cropping will occur when providing the below listed nominal reproduction sizes. For example, 8 x 10 has been a relatively standard photo print (or two 5 x7's) that will be on 8.5" x 11" paper, and trimming will be left to the customer.

4. Allow a minimum of 10 workdays for normal orders
5. RUSH ORDERS, if photo service is able to comply - $10 Minimum surcharge up to 100%
6. SHIPPING & HANDLING - $6.00 Minimum, courier and similar services will be provided at cost; there is No Charge for Customer Pickup.
7. California State Sales Tax applied to all retail orders.

CONDITONS FOR USE OF PHOTOGRAPH REPRODUCTIONS

Reproductions purchased from CCCHS may not be resold or reproduced in any other form than that agreed to by the Society. The Contra Costa County Historical Society grants permission for one-time use only, with the understanding that it is the responsibility of the user to resolve any questions of copyright that arise from the reproduction of images in the Society's collections. The Society will provide any available information concerning copyright but assumes no responsibility in this regard.
